Before settling into their new home, a small and run-down building with crumbling red bricks, the family moved frequently, always dreaming of having a house of their own. Pining for a white, wooden house with a big yard and many trees, Esperanza finds her life on Mango Street suffocating and yearns to escape. Esperanza highlights significant or telling moments both in her own life and those in her community, mostly explaining the hardships they face, such as her neighbor being arrested for stealing a car or the death of her Aunt Lupe. Esperanza Cordero is one of the most likable characters you'll ever meet.
Sally's and Esperanza's friendship is compromised when Sally ditches Esperanza for a boy at a carnival, leaving Esperanza to be sexually assaulted by a group of men. She recounts other instances of assault she has faced, like an older man forcibly kissing her at her first job. Esperanza's traumatic experiences and observations of the women in her neighborhood, many of whom are controlled by the men in their lives, only further cement her desire to leave Mango Street. It is only when she meets Rachel and Lucy's aunts, who tell her fortune, that she realizes her experiences on Mango Street have shaped her identity and will remain with her even if she leaves. As the novel ends, Esperanza vows that after she leaves, she will return to help the people she has left behind. The House on Mango Street covers the formative years of Esperanza Cordero, a young Chicana girl living in an impoverished Chicago neighborhood with her parents and three siblings.

Fleas are persistent little pests that can seem infinite in numbers. One of our favorite vacuums, this budget-friendly vacuum from Shark is powerful and lightweight, weighing 12.5 pounds. It includes features like a detachable canister, a HEPA filter and the ability to transition between floor types. Inside, there is a large feature fireplace with beautiful, exposed stone walls and an electric wood burner for cosy nights in.
Preventing Future Infestations
Keeping all this in mind, treating a flea infestation requires a multipronged approach in order to tackle every stage of their lifecycle and break the cycle. Treating all the pets in your home, as well as cleaning well, is paramount to getting an infestation behind you. You will need to vacuum even if a professional is treating your home. While many vet-approved or prescribed sprays and topicals are considered safe, some pets may still be sensitive to their ingredients. Stop any treatment if you notice that it’s causing irritation to your pet’s skin, or another kind of allergic response. Inform your vet if your pet has any known sensitivities to medications or ingredients.

Consider bathing your pet more often during this period as well. Fleas are far less prevalent in the winter than in the summer, but they can still hang on even during a cold, damp winter season. You should protect your pets year-round from fleas, not just in the warmer months. If you stop treatment in the winter, it may cause a reinfestation of fleas. Eggs are bound to get kicked beneath things, moved around, and missed with the vacuum. When the eggs hatch and complete their life cycle, you’ll have more fleas to take care of.
Ways To Store You car To keep Mice Out (And Why It Works)
But, fleas and their eggs may lurk in other parts of your home and yard, too. Liquid forms, such as Ortho Home Defense Spray, tend to be better because once dry, pets and children can then walk in the yard. Granule insecticides need to be watered in and take time to dissolve. If not, they can stick to your pet's paw pads, and they may ingest them. If you prefer a more natural route, you can try a flea treatment spray made from essential oils, like Vet's Best Flea and Tick Yard and Kennel Spray. A flea infestation usually requires a combination of tactics.
Formulated with natural oils, this flea shampoo is designed to kill fleas, flea larva, flea eggs and even ticks on your pet within hours, according to the brand. While most might think fleas are solely an issue for cats or dogs, fleas can actually bite humans as well. The question of how to get rid of fleas in your house may be more commonly asked by people with animals, but it is possible to have fleas even if you do not have a pet.
Cleaning Your Home
These eggs may be laid in your pet’s fur, deep in the carpet, or in tall grass. Choose an insecticide that contains an insect growth regulator (ICR). These are chemicals (e.g., methoprene and pyriproxyfen) that prevent fleas from reproducing. Treat all soft surfaces, including carpeting, with the insecticide. Then keep pets and family members away from the treated areas for at least a few hours, until the insecticide has dried.
After 24 to 48 hours, vacuum everywhere thoroughly, then dispose of the sealed vacuum bag, ideally outside. Therefore, treating the fleas on your pet is not an effective strategy on its own. Yes, you may get rid of the flea at that moment in time; however, what will happen is new fleas will hatch, grow, develop, and ultimately jump back onto your dog or cat, and the cycle will continue.

Check any product you use and follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully to ensure the safety of your pet. If you spill the product on the ground or on your clothes, clean it up and change clothes immediately. This is not to be confused with the toxic compound commonly known as Borax, also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate. These ingredients have previously been used in many flea-treatment powders. Borax is known to be toxic to pets, however, orthoboric acid is not.
The heat will kill the fleas, but it may not kill all the eggs. They may hatch later, and you may have to steam clean again. Treat all of the affected areas inside and outside thoroughly and stay out of your home for at least 3 to 4 hours after treatment, not returning until you are sure everything is dry. We always recommended boarding pets or having them stay with a friend or family member during the treatment process. If you have a bagless vacuum, you need to empty it into a trash bag when you’re done, seal the trash bag and throw it OUTSIDE.
Adult fleas live on the fur of animals where they will lay their eggs. The average life cycle of a flea is around 100 days, however, they can live indoors for up to a year if the conditions are favourable to them. Wash your pets with anti-flea shampoo you've purchased at your vet or that's recommended by your vet. Begin by washing from the head down, paying special attention to the areas where fleas like to gather, like on the face and neck, under the legs, around the front of the tail and in the groin area.
So, if you didn't clean your home environment well, you will end up with more fleas in approximately 1–2 weeks, and the cycle will continue. Squirrels, rats, mice, and other wildlife are common carriers of fleas. Make sure your yard is clean of any food waste or covered areas that may attract rodents. Discourage wildlife from visiting your yard by putting up fencing or barriers, and check any current fencing for loose boards or gaps where wildlife may slip through. If you do aim to use an insecticide or other chemical cleaning treatment, please proceed with caution.

Velvet Underground Kissing Lipstick (£23.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bold, brightened fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a satin finish. It was incredibly pigmented, and it applied and wore beautifully for a solid six and a half hours, plus it left behind a stain that lingered for a couple more hours. It was neither drying nor hydrating while worn; it seemed slightly moisturizing initially but at the four-hour mark, it just seemed neither drying nor hydrating. The Charlotte Tilbury Gorgeous, Glowing Beauty Instant Look in a Palette is such a pretty easy to wear palette I think it should be permanent!

It wore well for three hours and felt hydrating over time. Charlotte Tilbury Enchanting Kiss Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a brighter, medium pink-coral with moderate, warm undertones and a high-shine, glossy finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which was slightly more coverage than marketed, that applied somewhat evenly. The Kissing formula is supposed to be pigmented and luminous, while also being hydrating. It has a creamier, lightweight consistency that's comfortable to wear and to apply with a moderately hydrating formula to back it.
I just got Crystal HappiKiss, I thought the other colours looked too pigmented for a balm type product. The Tarte Maricuja Juicy Lip is an exact dupe for this very shiny thick balm. I can’t remember what they cost, but the are deffo cheaper. The have loads more colours, and all of them are sheer.

9 Beauty Products That'll Take You Right Back to the 2000s.
I think every color in the Gorgeous Glowing Beauty palette is wearable and great for the more conservative beauty lover or for those who feel like they don’t know how to wear makeup. It’s truly easy to wear with easy to follow steps for a full face look and I do think it’s beautiful! At $75 it is fairly spendy, I bought mine during the Sephora Holiday bonus event for some savings. When I previewed shopping the palette in store a lot of you asked how it compares to The Dolce Vita quad (now renamed The Bella Sofia), swatches below. There are definitely similarities in two of the shades, I find the individual quad has more color payoff on the eyes.
I added a swatch of Pillow Talk at the end for reference. I reviewed the Superstar Lips formula last year here. I had mixed feelings because of the price and size of the product. I still do for this reason, but the formula is really nice, especially if you like a glossy lip. Three new shades caught my eye in Glow Kiss, Princess Kiss and Everlasting Kiss (the first two of these are exclusive to Charlotte Tilbury’s website). After hauling all three I decided to give the shimmery ones a try in Pillow Talk Diamonds and Lucky Diamonds as well.
Overall I’m happy with the way all of them look except for Pillow Talk Diamonds. They are very sheer and I find their online stock photos and model photos very misleading. I find they look a lot more pigmented and opaque online than they do in real life – even with heavy lip layering. For the price I’d expect a lot more product at the very least. As much as I like the colors I think the deeper and brighter options I bought last year make for a better buy.
Makeup & Beauty Product Reviews
Worth noting, the packaging used thinner plastic and was much lighter-weight (to the point of feeling a little flimsy) compared to other Charlotte Tilbury lip products. It also has a clicking, twist-up mechanism that doesn't lalow for the product to be twist back into the tube, so take care when twisting product out for use. I'm guessing that the more balm-like formula needed that type of mechanism in order not to break at the base. Overall lots to love for easy everyday kind of makeup.
Whether the product looked smoothing depended on the shade as some were more flattering to wear than others. The formula had a subtle, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste. Charlotte Tilbury Coral Kiss Kissing Lipstick (£23.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened, medium coral-pink with a satin finish.
It lasted well for four hours and felt hydrating while worn. Perfect, full, kissable lips really do grow on trees… Charlotte’s debut range of lipsticks are truly remarkable and boast a fail-safe recipe for perfect lips. The unique formula features seed extracts from ‘The Lipstick Tree,’ a plant extract that is exclusive to Charlotte Tilbury. ‘The Lipstick Tree’ is a rare, exotic tree with nurturing and protective properties were originally discovered by Native American women who used the seeds to paint and protect their lips. With an anti-oxidant that naturally protects lips from UV damage and external pollution, lips are left cashmere soft and irresistible.
I find that some of the creamier shades can sit in my lip lines a bit, but it really depends on the shade on how noticeable it is in person. The wear ranges from three to five hours (reds and the like). There's a faint, sweet vanilla scent but no discernible taste. The finish was exceptionally shiny, and it did give the illusion of plumper lips.
This format gives reviewers a way to provide an in-depth review of the same specific aspects of a product, allowing you zero in on the criteria that are most important to you. Charlotte Tilbury Happipetal Hyaluronic Happikiss Colour Balm ($34.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark orange-coral with strong, warm undertones and a high-shine, glossy cream finish. The texture was thicker, slightly denser, and this resulted in a heavier look that was easy to over-apply.
It had rich, opaque color coverage, and the color applied evenly and smoothly. It wore well for four and a half hours, and it was neither drying nor hydrating when worn. At blushgarden, we think differently about reading and writing beauty product reviews. We believe product reviews should provide you with detailed information, let the writer quickly and easily share their thoughts, and be a fun experience for all. To achieve this, we provide a ratings scale for distinct criteria, alongside traditional written comments.
The formulas in this palette itself are much better in pigment and color payoff significantly compared to the first ones she launched. It’s still a very natural looking but I think colors are deep enough for even medium tan skin tones. It’s neutral in undertone to me making it a lot more wearable than her previous Beauty Glow Palette from 2017. Colors are soft but buildable, I think with the texture it’s easy to blend and impossible to overdo. It didn’t have as much slip as I would have thought, but this helped it sit better on my lips and have better longevity. It had rich color coverage that adhered somewhat evenly to my lips and seemed to fill in a few of my lip lines but didn’t smooth them all out.

When you notice black or brown spots in the comb, dunk it into the bowl to kill the fleas. If regular vacuuming isn’t enough, try sprinkling some salt or baking soda on the carpet or furniture first. Salt and baking soda both can hurt fleas by drying them out. Leave it on for 24 hours or up to a week before you vacuum it up. If it can’t be picked up and washed in HOT water, then you need to vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Fully vacuum everywhere and then treat with a spray like Knockout.

Step 1: See your veterinarian.
Aim to brush your cat with a flea comb at least once per day to pull fleas off of them. Keep in mind that a flea comb won’t kill fleas, so you will need to have a plan to quickly kill fleas as you brush them off before they jump back onto your cat or get loose in your house. Brushing your cat on a hard surface, like a tile floor or wooden table, will help to reduce the chances of you losing track of the fleas you brush off. Other animals, especially strays, can potentially bring fleas into your home. Don’t allow visiting animals into the house, as they can perpetuate the flea life cycle, especially if they are not on flea treatment themselves.
How to get rid of fleas in your yard
The best way to get rid of fleas is to take steps to prevent them in the first place, but if you’re dealing with a breakout, there are things you can do to clean your pet and your home. We spoke to veterinarians about the telltale signs of fleas, how to get rid of them and how to prevent them. It is a naturally occurring powder made from the microscopic remains of diatom algae. The shells of diatoms are made out of silica, soft to the touch for humans but razor-sharp to insects by penetrating their exoskeleton and dehydrating the insect.
Spot-treat your home with insecticide spray.
Hot, soapy water kills fleas, so wash your cat's or dog’s bed every week. And if your pets sleep in your bed or with your kids, make sure to wash everyone else’s bedding too. These eggs may fall off your pet and end up all over the house.
You want a product that treats fleas at every stage -- from egg to adult bug -- and that works well in your climate. Most flea treatments take only one dose a month to keep fleas from making you and your pets itch. These larvae can end up in many parts of your home, including furniture, floors, and pet beds.

And, even if you only spot a few of the insects on your dog or cat, chances are your flea problem is far more widespread than you realize. "The other 95 percent are immature stages (eggs, larvae, and nymphs). Frighteningly, an adult female flea can lay 2,000 eggs a day." Advantage II is an over-the-counter topical treatment available for dogs and cats. It’s applied directly to your pet’s skin, just below the fur. The product should start working within 12 hours and stays effective for 30 days (at which point you need to apply again), according to the brand. If you have a flea infestation in your home, your best course of action is to employ as many methods as possible to exterminate these pests.
You'll need to combat an infestation on multiple fronts, so clean your home, groom your pet, and take steps to control fleas in your yard. With patience and persistence, it's possible to eliminate fleas without resorting to toxic chemicals. Eradicating all the fleas in every stage of the life cycle could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

The most effective way to get rid of fleas on pets is to combine several methods for reducing the number of adults, eggs and larvae in the home and on your pets. These include vacuuming areas where your pets frequent, providing flea treatments to all pets in the home and hiring a professional pest control company to treat in and around your house. As well as ensuring you comb your dogs and cats with a flea comb regularly, there are plenty of natural ways to help avoid a nasty infestation. Unfortunately, fleas have a 90-day life cycle, which means you might need to treat your home and yard twice, three times, or more.
Fleas are parasitic insects that are typically brown in color and smaller than 1/8 of an inch. When choosing hosts, fleas prefer furry, four-legged animals to humans. However, fleas will sometimes hop onto nearby human hosts, and they can take up residence in your home’s carpets and bedding.

Vacuuming will cause the flea eggs to WAKE up, and they’ll hatch and crawl out of your vacuum if you don't empty and clean it properly. If you have a vacuum with a bag, then you need to take the bag out to the trash right away. You may wish to pre-treat with flea-treatment for carpets, such as FleaBustersRx or Knockout Spray. If using powder, you need to let it sit for 24 to 48 hours BEFORE vacuuming it up. However, you should comb the powder into carpets and seams of upholstery so that you don't visibly see it.

They are wingless and usually reddish-brown, with hard, polished bodies covered with microscopic backward-pointing spines and hairs. However, many essential oils are not pet-safe, so never use them on or around your pet without first talking to your vet. Fleas have a life cycle from a few weeks to several months, depending on a variety of factors such as temperature and humidity. Due to this unpredictable life cycle — as well as environmental conditions and the severity of the infestation — it can take weeks to months to eliminate fleas. When fleas show up in your home, you want to get rid of them ASAP.

How much does a Royal Caribbean cruise cost?
That makes them particularly appealing to families, including multigenerational groups. The smaller ships also appeal to a subset of Royal Caribbean fans who like a little more intimacy in a cruise vessel and don't mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. These ships are also often less expensive for travelers on a per-day basis. The outlier among the six ships mentioned above is Icon of the Seas, which isn't an Oasis Class ship but the first of an all-new series of even bigger vessels called the Icon Class. Royal Caribbean has ordered two more Icon Class ships that will begin sailing in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
Booking a cruise has never been easier with flexible payment methods and payment options.
Some ships even offer free pizza at certain locations and soft-serve ice cream near the pool deck, letting you indulge a bit without any additional costs. The casinos on the four other Oasis Class ships are similarly giant. Some ships also have comedy clubs, and there's always live music in multiple venues nightly. We're particularly fond of the two-deck-high Music Halls on Quantum Class vessels.
One of Disney Cruise Line’s traditions is its family dining concept in which families rotate through the ships’ three main dining rooms. The Disney Wish features three new restaurants, starting with 1923, an elegant celebration of the year The Walt Disney Company was founded, combining Hollywood glamor with the Disney whimsey. There’s no shortage of pools and water splash zones onboard; ten, to be exact!

The waterslide had a few issues on our preview cruise, so not all the effects were working, but my understanding is that the two storylines (Port Misadventures and Swiss Meltdown) will be available on a schedule of alternating days. And, fine, maybe on my next Wish cruise I'll bring my kids here during the day, too. As a child of the 1980s who lived and breathed all things "Star Wars" growing up, I had a blast enjoying a few otherworldly drinks from this gold-laden lounge with views of the universe beyond. You'll enter the lounge via a room that is dark and serves as a "palate cleanser" from the rest of the ship. Then, once inside, everything from the custom furniture to the liquor bottles and specialty cocktails to the tap handles for the beer is themed accordingly. And if all of that isn't enough, there are four royal suites with a "Sleeping Beauty" theme, two of which feature a wild, two-story floor plan.

On the classic ships, the area is entirely inside, and on Disney Dream and Fantasy the Rainforest is open to the outside air, but you do not go outside. There is a minimum height requirement of 42” and guests must be 48” tall to ride their raft alone. Billed as the very first Disney attraction at sea, the AquaMouse is very similar to the AquaDuck on Disney Dream and Fantasy.

Disney Cruise Line's Next New Ship is Heroic & Villainous - Disney Tourist Blog
Disney Cruise Line's Next New Ship is Heroic & Villainous.
Disney is calling the AquaMouse (the waterslide on Disney Wish) the "first-ever Disney attraction at sea," which is a big statement for a company that knows attractions. If you want the best of the best, go for the almost 2,000-square-foot Wish Tower Suite, which is set in the forward funnel of the ship. It's hard to believe this is an actual place people can stay on a ship. With ten years of waiting — not to mention all the years of extra anticipation once the ship was announced — expectations are bound to be sky high, and wishing begins to fill in the holes left by an absence of details.
Deck 10
The ship will be powered by liquified natural gas, or LNG, one of the cleanest-burning fuels available. At approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,254 guest staterooms for a maximum 4000 passengers, the ship will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. Most of the ship’s 1,254 staterooms will offer an ocean view — including 877 (70%) with a spacious verandah — and there will be 451 connecting doors that adjoin rooms to accommodate larger families. The maiden voyage will set sail on June 9, 2022, with a five-night cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida, to Nassau, Bahamas, and Castaway Cay, Disney's private island. From new attractions to dining experiences, here’s just a taste of what you can expect. The ship’s motif is enchantment, and it focuses on a tale as old as time -- wishing upon a star.
While this holds true on all the Disney ships, my 6-year-old never wanted to leave the kids club on Disney Wish. Disney Wish retains the rotational dining format but with a lineup of all-new dining experiences. To keep things as comfortable and immersive as possible, the direction you fly on the screens is indeed the same direction the cruise ship is heading, giving the experience an even more realistic feel. Ships from all timelines of the "Star Wars" franchise fly across seven monitors that feature such insanely high resolutions that it really looks like Star Destroyers, TIE Fighters, the Millennium Falcon and more are right outside. The Imagineers worked closely with Lucasfilm to unlock the entire library of ships. Every ship that whizzes by has a name, a story and a place in the greater "Star Wars" universe.
This area is similar to Enchanted Rose Lounge at Grand Floridian, but miles better–more well-appointed, tasteful, and luxurious. As a whole, the speciality dining deck is an unequivocal upgrade on the other ships. Those varying themed spaces exist on the other ships, but the variety of styles is much more pronounced on the Disney Wish.
How is the Wish Different from Other Disney Cruise Line Ships?
This version takes the Italian cuisine concept and elevates it into a steakhouse. If you’re familiar with the Animator’s Palate level of interactivity onboard other Disney Cruise Ships, you’ll have the same general idea about Worlds of Marvel. Indeed, the Disney Wish is the first Disney cruise ship not to have an Animator’s Palate restaurant onboard — and Worlds of Marvel is likely the closest to that type of experience you’ll find. Like all Disney Cruise Ships, the Disney Wish offers something called rotational dining during the nightly dinner service — a Disney Cruise Line innovation.

Like the Arendelle restaurant, there’s a “dinner and a show” aspect to dining at Worlds of Marvel. You’ll also get an up-close (and maybe too personal) demonstration of Super Hero technologies, with appearances by Ant-Man and the Wasp. The Disney Wish was built at Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, the same shipyard responsible for the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The Disney Wish, the fifth ship in the Disney Cruise fleet, will showcase the immersive family entertainment, enchanting storytelling and unparalleled service that only Disney can deliver.
The verandah had two chairs and was a quiet and lovely spot to watch the sunrise (if we were up early!) and the sunset.
