The Starlight Safari is a safari only experience, where you’ll climb into a safari truck with guide and explore the Animal Kingdom Lodge savanna. The experience is approximately one hour, and a portion of the proceeds is donated to Disney’s Global Conservation efforts. The cost is $74.17 per person and can be booked by calling 407-WDW-PLAY. Outside, at the Arusha Rock, there is nightly African storytelling next to Ogun’s Firepit. (Storytelling is held indoors in the event of inclement weather.) It is one of the prettiest bars you’ll find, with its dark wood floor, imitation stonework, casual African furniture, and beautiful lighting. The giant, stepped pillars can easily be seen as layered rock and the lounge itself is literally above the small waterfall found outside of the restaurants Jiko and Boma below. Speaking of its location, the lounge is oddly positioned--in between the two restaurants and the lobby, both horizontally and vertically. In order to enter Victoria Falls you can either walk up from the restaurant level or down from the lobby level. It’s far from the massive list available at Jiko, but it is still impressive.

For many AKV Jambo House lovers, there’s nothing better than booking that savanna view. You can sit on your balcony sipping coffee and taking in the view of an actual giraffe. Disney's Deluxe and DVC resort guests get two extra hours in select theme parks on certain days of the week.

There are no dedicated 2-bedroom DVC rooms at AKV Jambo House because they’re all lock-off rooms, meaning they’re a studio room and a 1-bedroom connected by a door. AKV Jambo House Grand Villa has the major benefit of being all on one level. This is great for accessibility and for DVC guests of all ages. You can really entertain in the AKV Jambo House Grand Villa. One of Animal Kingdom’s top selling points is the view of animals right outside of the balcony. Unfortunately, that isn’t the case for every single room and we ended up with a view of the pool.

Each has unique animals because not all the animals get along well. If you want giraffes, try the Sunset Savanna or the Arusha Savanna. If you want a quieter environment, try the Uzima Savanna. Any balloons brought to the resort (from the theme parks, for example) will have to be checked with bell services for the duration of the guest’s stay. This information might be helpful to families with younger children, so there are no disappointments when returning to the resort. Overall, Animal Kingdom is one of our favorite resorts at Walt Disney World, and Jambo House is our preferred wing of the lodge (over Kidani Village), making it truly the creme de la creme.

Savanna View

Jambo House (the original Animal Kingdom Lodge) has both Disney Vacation Club (DVC) rooms and regular guest rooms. Each area has its own check-in lobby, but the split Resort shares all other facilities. The term “Disney Vacation Club Villas” refers to the Disney Vacation Club accommodations at both Jambo House and Kidani Village. There are so many hidden nooks and crannies throughout Animal Kingdom Lodge that you’re virtually always discovering something new. There was no reason for this to exist where it was, and I can’t imagine many guests hanging out here, but there it was.

You can’t beat the unlimited snacks that come with this kind of room. To make the most of your DVC points, look for that value studio at the 11-month mark. A standard view has its perks as well, especially if you enjoy overlooking the beautiful pool at AKV Jambo House. You may even get lucky and get a partial savanna view.

Both pools have poolside activities throughout the day, so be sure to check your activities calendar when you check in to see what activities are running and when. If you are looking to secure a Savanna View Villa, the animals you will see will vary depending on where your room is located within the resort. At Kidani Village, you can see the animals that roam on the Pembe Savanna and Sunset Savanna, and at Jambo House, you can see the animals that roam on the Sunset Savanna, Arusha Savanna, and Uzima Savanna.

Even setting this aside (which is an odd, arbitrary thing to do), Animal Kingdom Lodge would rank near the top of Walt Disney World’s resorts. This is thanks to the rich theming throughout Jambo House. Animal Kingdom Lodge is one part stunning design crafted by the Imagineers and one part authentic pieces on display, including the largest African art collection in the United States. In a resort where every functional design element also manages to reinforce theme, that’s important. Jambo House’s rooms really offer the best of both words, in my estimation.

We’ve never had a bad view at Animal Kingdom Lodge. Due to the way the resort is laid out, the vast majority of rooms offer a savanna view. We’ve done the savanna view once, and received a pool view 2 other times we’ve stayed at Jambo House. Due to the way the lodge is laid out, maybe around 10% of rooms are going to have a parking lot (or similar) view. I’m sure there’s some deep-cut backstory explaining the significance of these subtle thematic tweaks, but it’s probably not going to be obvious to the average guest. Now, being close to Magic Kingdom or Epcot is the “big deal” for most Walt Disney World guests. Those new offerings should tip the scale towards Animal Kingdom a bit more, especially until the “new attraction smell” of the rides in Pandora wears off.

The Hakuna Matata playground, with slides and other play structures, is near the pool area in the back of the resort. Animal Kingdom Lodge boasts three of Disney's highest-rated restaurants, and dining is a strength at this resort. Still, these are among the smallest rooms in Disney's Deluxe category. AKV Jambo House is not as large as other DVC resorts so if you really love AKV Jambo House, you do need to own points here to get the most premium DVC rooms. The theming at Animal Kingdom Jambo House is some of the best in the Disney Vacation Club network. If you’re looking for a DVC golden gem, book a club-level concierge room at AKV Jambo House.
